Ascension and Allegan General Hospital sign definitive agreement

Ascension and Allegan Healthcare Group, Inc., in Allegan, Michigan, have signed a definitive agreement for Allegan to join Ascension Michigan effective September 1, 2019.

“The addition of Allegan General Hospital to Ascension Michigan will strengthen healthcare access and delivery for area residents and ensure the continued provision of high quality healthcare well into the future,” said Tim Stover, MD, Interim Ministry Market Executive for Ascension Michigan. “Ascension Michigan looks forward to working closely with Allegan care providers to provide mission-inspired, best-practice care to those we are so privileged to serve across west Michigan.”

The independent, nonprofit Allegan Healthcare Group includes 25-bed Allegan General Hospital, a critical access hospital; Allegan Professional Health Services, Inc.; and Allegan General Hospital Foundation. The system has 16 employed physicians and an extensive array of ambulatory services across Allegan and Van Buren counties. Ascension Michigan includes Ascension Borgess in Kalamazoo, which is about 30 miles from Allegan. When Allegan joins Ascension, it will adopt the unified Ascension brand and identity, making it easier for those Allegan serves to connect to the national health system’s compassionate, personalized care.

“With our values so closely aligned, we are excited to have reached this agreement with Ascension and look forward to working together to continue to provide exceptional care to our communities for generations to come,” said Gerald J. Barbini, President and CEO, Allegan General Hospital.
