Ascension hospitals earn high marks in U.S. News and World Report rankings

The latest U.S. News and World Report hospital rankings include high marks for 35 Ascension hospitals. The news outlet analyzed more than 5,000 medical centers based on outcomes, performance measures and patient safety.

Twenty-seven of the 35 Ascension hospitals were rated high performing in the treatment of congestive heart failure; 21 were rated high performing for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Ascension St. Vincent was rated the No. 2 hospital in Indianapolis and No. 5 in Indiana. It was cited as high performing in four procedures/conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery and heart failure.

Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis was named a regional best specialty hospital and was rated high performing for abdominal aortic aneurism repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery and heart failure.

Ascension Genesys Regional Medical Center in Detroit was rated high performing nationally in the adult specialty of nephrology. It also received recognition for colon cancer surgery, heart failure and knee replacement.

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS

  • 14 hospitals were state ranked in some of the most competitive Ministry Markets
  • Five hospitals received especially high state and regional ranks:
    • Ascension St. Vincent’s Birmingham Hospital – 3rd in Alabama, 2nd in Birmingham
    • Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital – 4th in Tennessee, 2nd in Nashville
    • Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital – 5th in Indiana, 2nd in Indianapolis
    • Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital – 5th in Tennessee, 3rd in Nashville
    • Ascension St. John Medical Center – 5th in Oklahoma, 3rd in Tulsa
  • All 35 hospitals were high performing in one or more of nine common procedures and conditions. The following four hospitals received high performance ratings in more than half of the areas:
    • Ascension Providence Hospital-Southfield, Ascension Michigan – 8 areas
    • Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital, Ascension Tennessee – 7 areas
    • Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, Ascension Texas – 6 areas
    • Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, Ascension Tennessee – 5 areas
