Ascension leader participates in discussion on healthcare’s future in Washington, D.C.

Tamarah Duperval-Brownlee, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Providence Health System, Washington, D.C., and Senior Vice President and Chief Community Impact Officer, Ascension, recently participated on a panel hosted by the Washington Business Journal. The “Future of Health Care: The D.C. Hospital Report” panel focused on opportunities to improve health and wellness in the current D.C. healthcare landscape.

Dr. Duperval-Brownlee was joined by Vincent Gray, Chairman of the Health Committee and Councilmember, Ward 7, D.C. Council; Hugh Mighty, MD, Dean of the Howard University College of Medicine and Vice President of Clinical Affairs; and Wayne Turnage, Deputy Mayor for the District of Columbia Health and Human Services and Director, District of Columbia Department of Health Care Finance.

Dr. Duperval-Brownlee highlighted the importance of addressing the social determinants of health and discussed how Providence is transforming to meet the changing needs of District residents through its “healthy village” vision. The core components of the healthy village are based on the District’s Community Health Needs Assessment, which includes addressing mental and behavioral health issues, providing comprehensive senior care services, and helping patients better manage chronic illnesses.
