Dispensary of Hope National Advisory Council gets new chair

Bill Hoey, Vice President and Chief Mission Integration Officer, Ascension’s St. Vincent’s Health, Bridgeport, Connecticut, recently stepped down as Chair of the Dispensary of Hope National Advisory Council.

Greg Pope, Chief Mission Integration Officer, Ascension Saint Thomas, will be taking the assignment as Chair. Bill will continue on the council as a member.

Dispensary of Hope is a Tennessee-licensed charitable medication distributor supplying clinics and pharmacies with donated medication inventories to serve low-income persons. The role of the Dispensary of Hope is to bring together the pharmaceutical manufacturing community (which donates medication) and the healthcare delivery community (which qualifies patients and dispenses the medication to patients). The National Advisory Council includes leaders representing both groups. As an oversight body, its goal is to guide the Dispensary of Hope successfully forward, employing collaborative leadership to serve the healthcare needs of the low-income population.

Bill’s tenure as the Chair of the Council began in 2012, when the newly formed National Advisory Council was created to guide the strategy and progress of the Dispensary of Hope. Bill was responsible for growing the National Advisory Council membership and overseeing an expansion of Dispensary of Hope’s work. Since Bill began his service, Dispensary of Hope has grown from a handful of dispensing partner sites spread across a half-dozen states, to a total of 200 sites across 32 states, serving almost 250,000 patients annually.

Ascension, and in particular Ascension Saint Thomas in Tennessee, have supported the Dispensary of Hope’s growth. Ascension hosts 49 Dispensary of Hope access sites and annually distributes more than 6 million doses of free, donated medication.

“Bill has been a gracious servant to many, as well as a powerful source of vision,” said Chris Palombo, CEO, Dispensary of Hope. “Growing a new concept like the Dispensary of Hope, a charitable medication distributor, is complex. Its many leaders and volunteers have had to manage, inventories, operating systems, budgets, expectations and personnel. Bill has been there though the course of that success, guiding our work and helping to grow our national advisory structure. We are grateful for Bill’s leadership, his kindness, and his heart for others.”

Other Ascension representatives serving on the National Advisory Council include Timm Glover, Senior Vice President, Mission Integration; Rhonda Anderson, Senior Vice President, Finance; Lisa Davis, Chief Financial Officer, Ascension Tennessee; and Mary Paul, Vice President, Mission Integration.
