Ascension Seton Hays, part of Ascension Texas, recently held a ribbon–cutting ceremony for its $14 million maternity unit expansion.
The hospital added two labor and delivery suites, two mother and baby rooms, triage rooms, improvements to the nursery and neonatal intensive care unit, and a surgical robot system.
Neal Kelley, Chief Operating Officer, Ascension Seton Hays, told the Hays Free Press that the new unit is “the happiest place in the hospital,” saying: “New space and remodels are important, because it’s a tool for people to do their work. What’s really important are the incredible teams (that) do a wonderful job day in and day out. It’s a great new addition.”
The hospital previously was able to deliver about 1,100 babies a year. That number now has increased to 1,800. “We went from six LDS (labor and delivery suites) to eight and from 12 mother and baby rooms to 14,” he said.
