A patient’s successful kidney transplant at Ascension St. John, part of Ascension Oklahoma, was featured recently by Tulsa-based News on 6.
The story notes that last year Ascension St. John became the only kidney transplant center operating in the “Green Country” region of Oklahoma – the northeast portion of the state – and doubled its transplant number to more than 60.
“We have done a record number of kidney transplants. It's an amazing achievement, from a low number to a number like that is huge,” said Irfan Kundi, MD, the Ascension St. John Kidney Transplant Program Medical Director.
Dr. Kundi said Oklahoma has about 4,000 people on dialysis and 500 waiting for a kidney transplant.
