AMITA Health names new Chief Financial Officer

Richard Douglas “Doug” Carter, CPA, will be joining AMITA Health as Chief Financial Officer, effective April 13.

“We are excited to have Doug join AMITA Health,” said Keith Parrot, President and CEO, AMITA Health. “He brings a wealth of experience in healthcare finance to our system, with both faith-based and secular health systems, including financial leadership over controllership, budgeting, forecasting, reimbursement, managed care, revenue cycle, and workforce management.”

Since 2017, Doug has served as System Vice President of Finance for SSM Health, based in St. Louis. In this role, he has demonstrated financial leadership for a system comprising five regions in four states, with 23 hospitals including an academic medical center and a children’s hospital, representing total net revenue of $7.5 billion.

Doug has spent the bulk of his career with Tenet Healthcare, joining the for-profit system out of college as Controller and Accounting Supervisor at Tenet’s Lutheran Medical Center in St. Louis. His career with Tenet steadily advanced as he assumed greater responsibilities – as Controller at West Boca Medical Center, Boca Raton, Florida, then as CFO at Des Peres Hospital, St. Louis; Forest Park Hospital, St. Louis; Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska; Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama; Tenet’s entire Birmingham market; and finally, the Central Division of Tenet Healthcare, encompassing 20 hospitals in six states with total net revenue of $4.5 billion.

Doug earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Saint Louis University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
