Ascension CEO Joe Impicciche discusses focus on serving the poor and vulnerable

Ascension’s primary focus is on building on its commitment to the Mission – to the healing ministry of Jesus, according to President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph R. Impicciche, JD, MHA.

In a recent interview with Catholic Health World, Joe noted that Ascension’s community benefit programs are designed to reach some of the most vulnerable people in the communities Ascension serves. “That’s been our Mission ever since Ascension was formed,” he said.

“The commitment to the Mission is very, very real and very deep within our organization,” he said. “So that’s really where I have felt the most joy in the role, seeing that deep commitment and all the good that we're doing in our communities.”

To advance that Mission, Joe has challenged the Ascension Leadership Team to develop new ways to serve Ascension communities.

In the wide-ranging interview, Joe said all of Ascension’s initiatives – from those that are part of its Mission-inspired Transformation to its work with Google Health to providing more care in the home – are about providing better care to patients, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
