Ascension Via Christi leadership recently met with several Kansas lawmakers as part of an annual Advocacy Day at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka.
The Advocacy Day participants met with key legislators including Gov. Laura Kelly, Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle, Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine, House Health and Human Services Committee Chair Brenda Landwehr, and Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services Secretary Laura Howard.
The group discussed such issues as Medicaid expansion and enhancing mental and behavioral health access.
The top priority this session for Ascension Via Christi is finding a path forward to expand Medicaid, given a recent compromise between the governor and the Senate majority leader.
“Thank you to these public officials for taking time out of their busy schedules to engage in good conversation around these important issues,” Kansas Chief Advocacy Officer Bruce Witt said.
