Ascension Saint Alexius welcomes Link to campus

This summer, Ascension Saint Alexius in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, welcomed a new four-footed associate: Link. Link is a hospital dog that has been trained to work five days a week at the facility, providing support to the hospital’s youngest pediatric patients and visiting patients in the emergency department.

Leaders Keith Hill, Director of Nursing, and Katie Hammerberg, Coordinator of Child Life Services, traveled to Georgia to receive special training to work with Link in the hospital. He lives with Keith when not on duty and has quickly become a local celebrity on the medical campus.

Link’s new position was made possible through a grant from the Ascension Illinois Physician Council and gifts from associates.
