Three Hospital Presidents Named at Ascension Wisconsin

Three new hospital presidents are joining Ascension Wisconsin’s leadership team. The health system shared earlier this year its plans to transform its operational framework by concentrating leadership resources at the local level to enable increased focus on clinical quality, staffing and support of caregivers and associates.

Shane Carter, President, Ascension NE Wisconsin - Mercy Campus

Shane CarterOn November 27, Shane Carter will return to Ascension Mercy in Oshkosh nearly 20 years after serving as a nurse in the intensive care unit.

As a leader for more than two decades at Advocate Aurora Health, he served most recently as Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer at Aurora Medical Center - Oshkosh. There, he improved patient safety and increased patient satisfaction scores, achieved and maintained high-level associate engagement, guided an Epic electronic health record conversion and integrated a professional development model, promoting education and professional practice advancement.

Prior to that, Carter served in a variety of clinical and nursing leadership roles at that facility, including as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit, House Supervisor, Clinical Nurse Manager and Nurse Educator.

Carter earned a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. He has worked with medical group operations, Cardiology, Oncology and Women’s Health service lines, and led Imaging and several support services. Carter is a results-driven leader committed to ensuring high clinical quality and an exceptional patient experience, as well as providing safe, competent care to the communities we serve. He’s focused on creating a culture and environment where associates love coming to work.

Andre Storey, FACHE, President, Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital - Milwaukee Campus

Andre StoreyAndre Storey will join Ascension Wisconsin on December 11 as President of Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital - Milwaukee Campus. He served most recently as Chief Operating Officer at Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, a 143-bed private hospital and a Level III Trauma Center and Certified Chest Pain Center, in Houston. There, he improved clinician engagement and drove growth by establishing new partnerships and service lines.

Prior to that, he served as Director of Hospital Operations at Baylor University Medical Center, a 914-bed quaternary care Level I Trauma Academic Medical Center and American Nurses Credentialing Center-recognized Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, in Dallas. He also served in regional leadership roles for CHRISTUS Health in Texas and Louisiana.

Storey earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University, San Antonio, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He is focused on creating strategic alliances with clinicians and community organizations to support key business initiatives, community engagement and outreach.

Kurt Schley, MHA, President, Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital - Elmbrook Campus

Kurt SchleyKurt Schley will begin his role as President of Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital - Elmbrook Campus in Brookfield on January 2. He most recently served as Market Chief Executive Officer at Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) St. Alexius Health Bismarck, (now part of Common Spirit Health), which includes a 300-bed tertiary hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, two Critical Access Hospitals, and numerous clinics and outpatient services.

There, he led a culture transformation, bringing St. Alexius into CHI, and facilitating an Epic electronic health record conversion. Prior to that, Schley was President of CHI St. Anthony Hospital (now part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health System), an 80-bed medical-surgical hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Schley earned a Master of Hospital Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He looks forward to delivering consistent transformative results in growth, service line development, provider and associate engagement, quality and productivity improvement, and patient safety and satisfaction. Schley was raised in Waukesha and Wauwatosa and is excited to be returning to southeast Wisconsin.
