Ascension’s Dr. Mitesh Patel recognized as one of Modern Healthcare's Innovators Award honorees

Ascension is proud to announce that its Vice President and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer Mitesh Patel, MD, MBA, was recognized as one of the distinguished recipients of Modern Healthcare’s 2025 Innovators Awards, celebrating both outstanding individuals and organizations leading healthcare innovation.

Detailed profiles of all the honorees are featured in the April 14, 2025 issue of Modern Healthcare's magazine and online at ModernHealthcare.com/Innovators.

Modern Healthcare's Innovators program recognizes leaders and organizations driving innovation that improves care, achieves measurable results and contributes to the clinical and financial goals of the organization.

"The ambitious work underway by our 2025 Innovators Awards' honorees is producing exciting results that will lead to better results for patients and these organizations that are tackling the industry’s biggest challenges,” said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare.

“I’m deeply grateful to be recognized alongside such a remarkable group of changemakers transforming the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Patel. “This honor reflects the support and commitment of the incredible teams I’m privileged to work with at Ascension as we continue to deliver advanced care for the patients and communities we serve.”

Ascension is transforming care through a consumer-centered approach that personalizes every interaction based on patient needs. With Dr. Patel’s expertise, behavioral “nudge” campaigns across Ascension and more than 1,350 of its primary care practices have helped support patients scheduling more than 50,000 annual wellness visits and boosted preventive care. A randomized clinical trial of Ascension’s nudge campaigns – personalized messages sent via email and text to gently remind patients to set follow-up appointments, take their medications, schedule visits and complete screenings – showed a 19.6% increase in vaccination, cancer screenings, and diabetes tests and a 17.9% drop in no-shows. To sustain progress, Ascension launched a national innovation program empowering local teams to scale community-focused solutions. These efforts were highlighted in the Ascension’s November 2024 Ministry in Action Report.
