Ascension Seton Hays Earns 5-Star Rating from CMS

Today Ascension Seton Hays announced that it received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2025 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. These ratings, which assess quality of care, patient safety and patient experience, are essential for patients and families making informed healthcare decisions.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings are derived from 46 publicly reported quality measures across five quality domains:  Mortality, Patient Experience, Readmission, Safety of Care, and Timely and Effective Care. These quality measures are aggregated and a single composite star rating is assigned by CMS for each hospital, with five stars indicating the highest level of hospital performance. CMS requires all hospitals participating in Medicare to collect data for each quality measure, which are reported on Care Compare.

In 2025, CMS reported a star score for 2,891 U.S. hospitals with the national average star rating decreasing from 3.13 stars in 2024 to 3.08 stars in the current year. Ascension had 41 hospitals receive a star rating with the average rating across all facilities of 3.37 stars. Of those Ascension facilities, approximately 21 earned either a five- or four-star rating, reflecting a superior level of performance compared to hospitals with three or fewer stars.

"The CMS Overall Star Ratings help patients and families assess hospital quality in key areas that matter to them. These results reflect the dedication of our Ascension Texas caregivers and associates who consistently deliver compassionate, high-quality care across our hospitals," said Jamie Youssef, CEO of Ascension Texas.

Additionally, the following 4 Ascension Texas hospitals achieved four-star ratings:

  • Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (Austin, Texas)
  • Ascension Seton Northwest (Austin, Texas)
  • Ascension Seton Williamson (Round Rock, Texas)
  • Ascension Seton Cedar Park (Cedar Park, Texas)
