Ascension Florida launches telehealth maternity care program to support mothers and babies

Ascension Sacred Heart and Ascension St. Vincent’s have launched a new Telehealth Maternity Care Program that provides expecting mothers with personalized support throughout pregnancy and up to one year after birth at no cost.

Through a partnership with the Florida Department of Health, referred families are assigned a dedicated patient navigator who connects them with prenatal and postpartum services, helping to remove barriers to care.

Florida continues to face challenges in maternal and infant health, including higher infant mortality rates compared to state and national averages. Contributing factors often include inadequate access to quality prenatal care and limited comprehensive healthcare services in certain areas.

By offering telehealth navigation alongside in-person visits, Ascension Florida is expanding access and bridging those gaps, especially for vulnerable populations in Northwest and Northeast Florida.

“The Florida Department of Health is excited to team up with Ascension Florida to help address maternal morbidity and improve birth outcomes in Florida. The program is designed to aid in providing telehealth services and care coordination to women statewide,” said a Florida Department of Health spokesperson.

By improving care before and after birth, Ascension Sacred Heart and St. Vincent’s aim is to reduce the number of babies born prematurely and with low birth weights, and reduce the rate of complications for mothers during and after childbirth. The Telehealth Maternity Care Program will increase access to services, including:

  • Referrals and connection to care and wraparound services.
  • Connection to medical devices (such as scales and glucose monitors).
  • Health literacy information and education.

Connection to wraparound services include:

  • Housing placement options
  • Transportation services
  • Home visitation/education
  • Lactation support
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Car seat installation and training
  • Wellness and stress management

These services work together to reduce premature births, low birth weights and complications for mothers during and after childbirth. It’s one of the many ways that hospitals across Ascension Florida are working together to ensure every family we serve has the healthiest possible start.
