Ascension Illinois set to host first-of-its-kind oncology symposium

Ascension Illinois is excited to announce it is hosting the inaugural "Driving Progress in Oncology” primary care and oncology symposium, predominantly designed for primary care physicians, OB/GYN, oncologists, APPs and nurses who may want or need to earn CME or CNE credit. This event could not be made possible without some of our core community partnerships, including Harper College, which will act as the host site for the forum.

Attendees can expect healthcare professionals from a wide range of specialties to provide their insight on varied subjects including: screening and diagnostic testing to advanced therapies and precision medicines designed to enhance patient outcomes. Expertise areas range from breast health and radiation oncology to dermatology and neurosurgery, highlighting how this space will offer a diverse set of perspectives for most any attendee.

The event will include insight from:

  • Breast surgeon Dr. Gia Compagnoni
  • Radiation oncologist Dr. Alexander Harris
  • Gynecologic oncologist Dr. Assaad Semaan
  • Certified genetic counselor Anastasia Kathrens-Gallardo
  • Dermatologist Dr. Cynthia Abban
  • Pulmonologist and critical care specialist Dr. Bikash Bhattarai
  • Neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Yadla

Surgical oncologist, and Ascension Illinois’ oncology medical director Dr. Constantine Godellas will moderate the discussion.

“We are excited to host such a valuable event for local healthcare professionals,” said Dr. Godellas. “It will always remain our top priority to improve the lives of those in our community, and taking the lead on events like these is one way to do just that.”

Ascension Illinois facilities have long offered extensive breast cancer care. And this year, Ascension Saint Joseph – Chicago earned Accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) through the American College of Surgeons, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered breast care — from screenings and diagnosis to treatment and recovery.
