Ascension Mercy Hospital Celebrates 25 Years

Ascension Mercy Hospital Celebrates 25 Years

On the evening of Oct. 6, 2025, Ascension NE Wisconsin - Mercy Hospital celebrated 25 years at its current site on South Oakwood Road in Oshkosh. The hospital has continually grown and evolved over the years, and now features 160 beds and serves thousands of patients each year as a Level III Trauma Center with an advanced Primary Stroke Center and more than 38 specialties ranging from orthopedics to heart and vascular care to inpatient rehabilitation.

At the anniversary event, area elected officials, foundation donors, partner organizations and associations, and importantly, 25-year club members (associates employed by the hospital for 25 years or more) enjoyed the festivities with hospital and ministry administration.

"Ascension Mercy Hospital is a vital part of the greater Oshkosh community's ecosystem," said Mercy Hospital President Shane Carter. "We're not only providing important healthcare services, we're ensuring that access to care is accessible, affordable, and aligned with the evolving needs of our community. We have a very strong culture here at Mercy, and I'd like to thank all those who have made this hospital a part of their lives."

The event was an opportunity not only to reflect on the past but to highlight the hospital's current and future state, showcasing services and programs including cardiology, radiology and oncology services, trauma, behavioral health, SANE services, and more.

A pair of musicians played classical music for guests gathering in the Galleria where refreshments were served, and the hospital dining staff demonstrated their culinary skills with delicious heavy hors d'oeuvres and desserts in the cafeteria. Guests were treated to additional beverages provided by Brewing Futures, a local nonprofit organization helping at-risk youth learn skills through a mobile beverage retail experience.

Though relatively new to its current location, the hospital has a long history, dating back to 1891 when Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother began oversight of St. Mary's Hospital in Oshkosh, which we know today as Ascension NE Wisconsin - Mercy Hospital.
