Via Christi to Expand Emergency Care in West Wichita

Via Christi is expanding access to emergency care for Wichita residents with plans to develop a new freestanding emergency department on the city’s growing west side.

The new facility will be located on the northwest corner of West Kellogg and 119th Street and is expected to open to the public in 2027 following approximately 10 months of construction.

“As Wichita continues to grow, we’re committed to ensuring people across our community have access to high-quality, compassionate care when and where they need it,” said Kevin Strecker, CEO of Via Christi. “This new emergency department will make it easier for patients and families in the expanding west side of Wichita to access emergency care close to home—while strengthening our ability to meet the needs of those we’re privileged to serve.”

The 11,250-square-foot facility will feature:

  • Two triage rooms
  • Ten treatment rooms
  • One trauma room
  • Advanced imaging technology, including an X-ray and CT scanner
  • An onsite laboratory

Approximately 40 physicians and associates will staff the new emergency department, which is expected to serve over 10,000 patients annually. The department will be operated by Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, ensuring seamless transfer of patients needing higher levels of care.

When every minute matters, access to care close to home can save lives. This investment reflects Via Christi’s mission to grow alongside the communities it serves and to bring compassionate, faith-based healthcare to more patients.

“We are guided by our mission to serve all persons with special attention to those most vulnerable,” said Joseph Wysocki, Chief Mission Integration Officer, Via Christi. “This project reflects that calling by expanding access to emergency care and extending the healing ministry of Jesus to even more individuals and families in our community.”

We are working through a final design along with seeking regulatory approvals. Once those steps are complete, we will break ground. The 10-month project is expected to be completed in 2027.
