Ascension Saint Alexius is grateful to announce it has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Hospital in maternity care for the organization’s 2026 ratings.
U.S. News began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and created a study to assist expectant parents in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity services that best meets their family’s needs.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is ultimately decided by quality measures such as C-section rates, unexpected newborn complication rates, breast milk feeding rates, birthing-friendly practices and addressing racial disparities among mothers and families.
The Saint Alexius campus houses Ascension Illinois’ Women & Children’s hospital where care teams deliver a wide range of personalized women's and pediatric health care. This includes screening tests, urgent care for pelvic pain and treatments for gynecologic diseases. The hospital offers more than 60 pediatric subspecialties and delivers care for children from babies to teenagers.
Saint Alexius’ birthing center is another maternal care offering which employs an entire team dedicated to the care of expectant mothers. The hospital is able to handle even the most complex cases, providing Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) care for high-risk pregnancies and housing a Level III neonatal intensive care unit with a team equipped to tackle specialty newborn care.
In addition to this maternal care recognition, Saint Alexius previously earned a “high-performing” distinction from U.S. News & World Report for its treatment of knee replacement and heart failure. The hospital is also certified as a National Safe Sleep Hospital by Cribs for Kids, demonstrating that the care adheres to strict American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines for safe sleep.
