Notre Dame of Maryland University, Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital to Host “Come Explore Nursing” Event on April 8

Notre Dame of Maryland University, Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital to Host “Come Explore Nursing” Event on April 8

Notre Dame of Maryland University and Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital will give prospective nurses a peek into this in-demand field at “Come Explore Nursing,” from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, in the hospital’s main lobby at 900 S. Caton Ave.

Those attending the event can learn pathways to find their calling and explore the vast career options available in the nursing field with the university’s admissions staff and current students, along with nursing leaders at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital.

Participants will also hear from Notre Dame of Maryland University accelerated nursing student and local resident Jodi Hicks. The 46-year-old mother of four dreamed of becoming a nurse since she was a child, but the stars did not align until her 20-year-old daughter changed her college major to nursing and inspired her mom to join her in pursuing a degree in the field.

Nurses are in demand

Hicks’ journey into the field is timely, as nurses are in demand, nationally and locally. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the need for nurses to grow by 5% through 2034 – faster than the average for all occupations. Nurses are in short supply in Maryland, too, with the need for these professionals expected to increase across all settings through 2035, according to a Maryland Hospital Association report.

“These are good-paying career opportunities in a field that has ranked as the most trusted profession for 24 consecutive years,” said Kathleen Wisser, PhD, RN, CNE, Dean, School of Nursing, Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Training the next generation of nurses

Notre Dame of Maryland University offers a 15-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program that combines the fundamentals and theories of nursing in an innovative e-platform, with hands-on learning through immersive simulation experiences focused on patient-centered care with clinical partner Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital.

”A career in nursing can take you anywhere, and we are here to help you achieve your professional goals,” said Wendy Lincoln, Chief Nursing Officer, Ascension Saint Agnes. “As one of the nation’s leading non-profit and Catholic health systems, Ascension is committed to fostering a culture that supports you professionally and personally, while we deliver compassionate and personalized care for all.”
