Removing barriers to care and connecting communities through Medical Mission at Home

Ascension’s flagship community outreach program, Medical Mission at Home, brings free, one-day healthcare events to local populations across its Ministry Markets.

Rooted in Ascension’s Mission to serve those most in need, Medical Mission at Home delivers compassionate, high-quality care directly into communities, reducing barriers and expanding access for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or navigating challenges to traditional care.

Events provide a variety of health and wellness services with no insurance, appointments, or payments required. Onsite teams also connect participants to trusted community partners and local resources, helping support continue well beyond the day of service. Since its launch in 2008, Medical Mission at Home has served thousands of individuals across the country, addressing unmet health needs while fostering dignity, fellowship, and hope.

Each Medical Mission at Home event is staffed by hundreds of volunteers, including Ascension physicians, nurses, pharmacists, chaplains, and community partners. Services vary by location based on community needs, but some events include:

  • Free medical, dental, vision, and mental health services
  • No-cost prescription dispensing through Ascension Rx, supported by donated medications from Dispensary of Hope
  • Immunizations, hearing screenings, spiritual care, food, and financial guidance
  • Other personal care services
  • Follow-up appointments to support needed ongoing care
  • Access to community resources and social support

Through Medical Mission at Home, Ascension lives its Mission in action by meeting people where they are, removing barriers to care, and creating meaningful pathways to better health for the communities it serves.
