Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola celebrated the completion of its new 40-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 6th. The state-of-the-art, three-story, 41,000-square-foot center is located on the Ascension Sacred Heart campus. and is a pivotal expansion of the hospital's continuum of care.
The new center, which began seeing patients on August 3rd, offers specialized physical, speech, and occupational therapies and medical care tailored for patients recovering from strokes, neurological injuries, severe trauma, orthopedic injuries, neurological disorders and other medically complex conditions.
As the region's only Level I Trauma Center and a nationally certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, Ascension Sacred Heart can now provide a complete continuum of care by allowing patients who require intensive rehabilitation to remain on campus throughout their recovery journey without delay or disruption.

By offering a structured, supportive environment equipped with the latest medical advancements, the inpatient rehabilitation center aims to maximize patient independence, accelerate healing, and help individuals successfully reclaim their daily lives.
The center will feature:
- A custom Activities of Daily Living Retraining Suite designed to simulate a home environment where patients can practice everyday tasks before discharge.
- Two therapy gyms equipped with advanced rehabilitation technology.
- Specialized bariatric treatment rooms.
- A therapeutic garden designed to support community re-entry and recovery.
The facility is designed to support some of the region's most complex rehabilitation needs, providing specialized care for:
- Stroke
- Brain injury
- Spinal cord injury and impairment
- Amputation care and prosthetic fitting
- Orthopedic injuries and post-surgical repair
- Neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Parkinson's disease, polyneuropathy, and other neurodegenerative conditions
- Complex medical conditions, including pulmonary disease, end-stage renal disease, and severely impaired cardiac conditions for patients who qualify for intensive rehabilitation services
The new center further enhances care coordination by creating a seamless pathway from acute care through inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, helping patients recover while remaining connected to the care teams they know and trust.
