Ascension St. Vincent's St. Johns County welcomes FL Poison Control Centers for 55+ Series

Ascension St. Vincent’s recently welcomed members of the 55+ community for an engaging Lunch & Learn focused on poisoning prevention, common household risks and what to do in a poisoning emergency.

The August educational event provided attendees with practical information about how poisonings can happen, how to recognize the signs and the important steps to take when one occurs.

Guest speaker Michael McCormick with Florida Poison Control Centers shared that the most important thing anyone can do is to save the Poison Help Line: 1-800-222-1222.

The session also emphasized that poisoning emergencies can happen to anyone and that knowing how to respond quickly and appropriately can make a critical difference. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and learn strategies for reducing risks in their own homes, including safe medication use and storage.

The event reflects Ascension St. Vincent’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible health education and empowering Northeast Florida residents with information that can help them protect themselves and their families.

Through community programs like the Lunch & Learn series, Ascension St. Vincent’s continues to connect residents with healthcare experts while providing practical tools to prevent emergencies and respond confidently when they occur.

The September edition of the series will focus on General Medicine and feature St. Vincent's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mario Pulido.
