Ascension Alexian Brothers is excited to announce it has named Dr. Bruce McNulty as the new Chief Medical Officer for the Elk Grove Village hospital. He will join the Ascension team in October, and succeeds Dr. David Bordo, Ascension Illinois’ chief clinical officer, who has provided dedicated leadership as the interim CMO at Alexian Brothers since March 2025.
With an extensive background in physician leadership and clinical operations, Dr. McNulty joins the market following a long-standing tenure at Endeavor Health's Swedish Hospital in Chicago, where he served as senior vice president and chief medical officer for the past nine years. His career, spanning more than three decades, includes significant experience in emergency medicine, medical education and system-level strategic leadership. His past experience includes roles at several Chicagoland hospitals.

I'm especially looking forward to meeting the physicians, nurses and other staff members that provide the outstanding care that Alexian Brothers is renowned for,” said Dr. McNulty. “My hope is to build on that foundation of clinical excellence to grow programs, promote engagement with patients and staff, and continue to drive excellence across the organization. I have so much to learn about the hospital and the system, but as an experienced CMO, I hope to hit the ground running and earn the trust of staff quickly to achieve real results that are meaningful to patients and clinical staff.”
Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. McNulty graduated medical school at Georgetown University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. McNulty joins at a time when Alexian Brothers is regularly earning national distinctions and recognitions. Most recently, it earned a spot on Forbes’ inaugural “Top Hospitals by State,” highlighting, on average, the top 30% of hospitals in each state, as calculated by the organization. Alexian Brothers was also awarded a Gold Plus recognition through the American Heart Association’s “Get With The Guidelines” program. Gold Plus is the highest level of distinction and demonstrates that the hospital is dedicated to ensuring all stroke patients have access to best practices.
