Ascension Illinois selects Gregory Ammon as the next president of Ascension Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital

Ascension Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital (ABBHH) is pleased to announce that Gregory Ammon will serve as the hospital’s next president effective September 13. Ammon joined the ABBHH family in 2017 originally as the Director of Operations for outpatient services and has served as the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer since 2023.

During his time in that role, Ammon provided valuable oversight and guidance across growth strategies, clinical programming, and patient experience.

“My main goal as President will be to continue building upon the legacy of excellence and quality, ensuring access to our services to meet the needs of everyone in the communities we serve,” Ammon said. “We are committed to caring for all who turn to us during their times of need, while also being a workplace of choice for talented professionals in the behavioral health field.”

Ammon’s professional background strikes an important balance between operational performance and clinical excellence. In addition to executive level leadership, Ammon has a robust clinical background as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and has over two and a half decades of experience providing therapeutic interventions across all age ranges for both individuals and families.

Prior to his time with ABBHH, Ammon spent 18 years at Beloit Health System in Wisconsin, as a member of the system’s leadership team as a director across multiple medical and psychiatric clinics and patient service arenas.

Ammon earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He also holds licenses as a certified medical practice executive, certified crisis debriefer, a nationally certified counselor and a licensed clinical professional counselor in both Illinois and Wisconsin.

Serving Illinois since 1999, ABBHH is one of the largest behavioral health hospitals in the United States. It is nationally recognized for its breadth of programs and specialized care teams, offering a full continuum of care for individuals of all ages with behavioral and mental health needs, substance use disorder and other addictions. ABBHH provides inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization (day program), intensive outpatient and traditional outpatient programming for children, adolescents, adults and older adults. In the last year alone, ABBHH was recognized by Professional Research Consultants (PRC) as a 5-Star facility in providing:

  • Inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services in its Center for Addiction Medicine
  • Outpatient behavioral health services in its Child Partial Hospitalization Program
  • Outpatient behavioral health services in its School Anxiety School Refusal Partial Hospitalization Program
  • Outpatient behavioral health services in its Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program
