Ascension reports $1.5B of Net Income, 141% growth YoY; Turns Operating Margin positive on core operations and closes AmSurg acquisition in FY26

Ascension today announced strong financial results through the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, ending June 30, 2026, reporting net income of positive $1.5 billion. These results reflect continued progress in operational efficiency, expanded access to care, and the organization’s ongoing commitment to serving communities. On a same-facility basis, net income improved by $826 million or 141% year-over-year.

During FY26, Ascension significantly improved its operating performance, posting an operating loss of $120 million compared to a $491 million loss during the same period last year, representing a $371 million improvement year-over-year. Excluding newly issued AmSurg bond interest payments [which was offset at investment income level] and 1-time transaction costs related to AmSurg, Ascension’s core Operations delivered positive Operating Income in FY26. On the same-facility basis, total Income from Operations improved $696 million compared to FY25.

Recurring Operating EBIDA was positive $1.2 billion in FY26, representing a 5% Recurring Operating EBIDA margin and $388M improvement year-over-year through better operational performance.

Ascension’s acute care facilities had strong operational momentum during the quarter, driven by targeted access initiatives that increased patient volumes and improved care coordination. Same facility revenue grew 9.8% year-over-year, bolstered by continued investments in ambulatory services, service line expansion, and community-based care.

Additionally, a 6.8% reduction in patients’ length of stay at acute care hospitals reflects greater care efficiency, reducing unnecessary hospital time while maintaining high-quality outcomes. Together, these efforts are improving the patient experience while enabling caregivers to deliver more coordinated care.

“Three years ago, we set out to strengthen Ascension so we could better serve our patients and communities,” said Eduardo Conrado, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ascension. “Our results this year show the significant progress we have made. We have improved our financial performance, expanded access, advanced our clinical capabilities, and grown our ambulatory and community-based network. Most importantly, we have built a stronger foundation that allows us to invest in the future of healthcare and better meet the needs of the communities we serve.”

In FY26, Ascension provided a total of approximately $2.6 billion in community benefit on a same facility basis. This included $1.1 billion in care for persons living in poverty and other community benefit programs, along with an additional $1.5 billion of unreimbursed support for Medicare patients, as Ascension aims to bring health, healing, and hope to all.

Across the ministry, Ascension expanded facilities, programs, and services in areas of growing community need, including emergency, women's health, behavioral health, and specialty care. Highlights included the opening of a new emergency department in Pace, Florida, plans for a new hospital and healthcare campus in Clarksville, Tennessee, the opening of Ascension Seton's new Women's Hospital in Austin, and a new behavioral health unit at Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee.

As part of our commitment to serving communities, Ascension hosted 17 Medical Mission at Home events this spring, providing more than 19,000 free healthcare services to over 4,200 people through the support of approximately 4,000 volunteers. Ascension also strengthened community-based initiatives focused on prevention and early detection. Ascension Sacred Heart launched a free mammogram program for uninsured women. In Tennessee, Ascension Saint Thomas’ Mission in Motion mobile mammography bus brought breast cancer screenings directly into communities, while the second annual HerHealth360 event connected participants with screenings, education, and wellness resources.

The organization continued advancing clinical excellence through innovation, research, and specialty services. Ascension St. John Medical Center in Oklahoma launched a dedicated NICU helicopter transport program that significantly reduced travel times for critically ill newborns. Ascension Via Christi announced a new comprehensive breast care facility in Wichita. Ascension Wisconsin expanded access to medications with plans to open two new community pharmacies in Oshkosh. Surgical innovation continued across the ministry with the Austin area's first robotic colorectal procedure at Ascension Seton Cedar Park, the introduction of robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy in Indiana, and further expansion of robotic heart surgery programs.

“During FY26, our same-facility operational performance improved by $696 million; we turned positive Operating margin from core operations and achieved a 5.0% recurring operating EBIDA margin, while the same-facility net income increased 141% year over year,” said Saurabh Tripathi, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Ascension. “In addition, we closed the AmSurg transaction and expanded our Ambulatory platform to 312+ ASCs to better serve our patients. These results reflect disciplined execution across the ministry and provide greater flexibility to invest in our strategic priorities, while maintaining a strong financial foundation.”

In June 2026, Ascension further expanded its ambulatory care network through the acquisition of AmSurg, an ambulatory surgery development and management service company. This addition expands the Ascension national footprint across 36 states and increases access to care, aligned with Ascension’s Mission and strategy.

Looking ahead, Ascension will build on the progress achieved in FY26 by continuing to strengthen care delivery across the ministry. Guided by its Mission, the organization remains focused on delivering high-quality care, responding to the evolving needs of patients and communities, and investing in the people, programs, and capabilities that will strengthen care for years to come.
