Ascension St. Vincent Fishers Hospital has officially ushered in a new era of surgical innovation in Indiana. Dr. Maram Said, Medical Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Ascension St. Vincent, recently performed the state’s first single-port robotic gynecologic surgeries. The procedure is also among the first four reported nationally, positioning Indiana at the forefront of advanced robotic surgical care for women.
Using the da Vinci Single-Port (SP) robotic platform, complex pelvic procedures can now be performed through a single, tiny entry point—typically hidden within the belly button. Unlike traditional multi-port robotic or laparoscopic approaches that require multiple abdominal incisions, the SP platform utilizes one specialized port to deliver a high-definition 3D camera and surgical instruments simultaneously.
The surgeon directs every precise movement from an advanced robotic console, enhancing accuracy and control within the pelvic area. For eligible patients, the single-port approach offers significant clinical benefits, including: Minimal Visible Scarring: Concealed inside the natural contour of the navel. Reduced Postoperative Pain: Less disruption to surrounding abdominal wall tissues. Faster Recovery: Minimal blood loss, zero overnight stay (outpatient procedures), and a swift return to daily activities.
