Ascension Wisconsin Expands Access to Care with Two New Pharmacies in Oshkosh

Demonstrating Ascension Wisconsin’s commitment to the Oshkosh and Fox Valley community, the health system and local officials celebrated the opening of two new pharmacies in Oshkosh; one at Ascension NE Wisconsin – Mercy Hospital and one at the Ascension NE Wisconsin – Koeller Street clinic, where a ribbon cutting ceremony took place on October 19.

The expansion comes at a critical time for the Oshkosh community, which has seen local pharmacies close, reflecting a broader trend affecting communities across the country. Large pharmacy chains and privately owned pharmacies have announced or implemented store closures in response to shifting market conditions. These closures can create gaps in access to medications and pharmacy expertise, particularly for vulnerable populations.

“The people of Oshkosh have asked for more pharmacies, and Ascension has responded by adding two new pharmacies in convenient locations,” said Shane Carter, President, Ascension Mercy Hospital. “Adding pharmacy services is an important step in strengthening the continuum of care for our patients and neighbors in Oshkosh. Our goals are to improve access, deliver convenience, support better medication adherence, and enhance overall health outcomes.”

Ascension Wisconsin’s investment aims to ensure that residents continue to have reliable, local access to pharmacy services. By co-locating pharmacies within trusted care settings, Ascension is also working to simplify the healthcare experience—allowing patients to see a provider and fill prescriptions in one convenient location.

Ascension’s pharmacy brand – Ascension Rx – launched in 2020 and is open to any member of the community regardless of if they are, or have been, a patient of Ascension’s care before. With the opening of these two locations, Ascension Rx now has 13 sites for convenient access to pharmaceuticals in Wisconsin.

By adding Ascension Rx sites in Oshkosh, Ascension Wisconsin is enhancing the patient experience by ensuring there is continuity of care, and integrating pharmacists into the system’s local clinical team.

“At Ascension, it is our goal to ensure those who need healthcare services have access to them,” said Ascension Wisconsin Chief Strategy Officer Andrew Ohl. “This expansion of pharmacy services in Oshkosh reaffirms our commitment to providing our communities with access to convenient, personalized care.”

The Mercy Hospital-based pharmacy will also support patients receiving care within the hospital, helping ensure seamless access to medications during and after their stay. Sharing information between the hospital and pharmacy can also improve medication therapy management and the overall consumer experience.

Mercy’s pharmacy is also a Dispensary of Hope site. The Dispensary of Hope is a charitable medication distributor and subsidiary of Ascension, providing free medications to uninsured patients who struggle to afford their prescriptions.

Patients who use Ascension Rx have options to receive their prescriptions multiple ways including:
