Ascension’s hopes for the outcome of the Supreme Court case on some healthcare subsidies provided through the Affordable Care Act are included in a new story by CNBC.
“We certainly hope that the Supreme Court rules in favor of those critical subsidies,” Nick Ragone, Ascension Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, told CNBC. The subsidies “definitely helped us serve the poor and vulnerable, which is our primary concern in our market,” he said. “It has helped us serve more people with healthcare, which is our mission.”
The case is to be argued before the court Wednesday. Plaintiffs say subsidies that help people pay for healthcare coverage obtained in 37 states through the federally run insurance exchange are illegal. Subsidies issued through state insurance exchanges are not being challenged in the case.
