Ascension Sacred Heart, part of Ascension Florida, recently congratulated two of its latest recipients of The DAISY AwardⓇ: Savanah Saylor, RN, of the Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit at the Studer Family Children's Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, and Clayton Gilbert, BSN, RN, CCRN-CMC, of the Surgical ICU at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola.
Savanah was honored for the care she provided Alaia Rose, who was admitted to the hospital with jaundice at just 4 days old. Mom Kendara is a first-time mom. Grandmother Meka submitted the nomination. “Nurse Savanah came into the room and I noticed my daughter seemed to calm, as well as my granddaughter,” Meka wrote. “The second day nurse Savanah came into the room, her laughter and presence calmed the air. She gave us info without being prompted or asked. She held my little Alaia Rose, and she was calm and happy, playful even. She put my daughter at ease. I could physically see my daughter’s worry and pain leave her.” Meka said Ascension Sacred Heart “truly has an angel in its midst.”
Meka, Kendara and Alaia Rose, now more than 6 months old and thriving, attended the award ceremony.
Clayton, who has worked at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola for about two years, was recognized by the husband of a patient who was hospitalized after a seizure. Following is an excerpt from his nomination:
“Clayton instantly took a vested interest in her care and worked tirelessly to rehabilitate her and get her quality of life improved. He worked feverishly with doctors to strategize her care plan. … He communicated with her in a way no one else could other than me. … He gave us hope and comfort.”
