Empowering women with free mammogram screenings

The month of October has long been known for its focus on breast cancer awareness, and Ascension Saint Thomas took that to heart with an initiative to provide free mammogram screenings for uninsured women in the community. In partnership with Premier Radiology in Bellevue, Tenn., the program implemented an automated outreach campaign to connect with women who otherwise lack access to this critical service.

A Powerful Partnership to Address Healthcare Disparities

Ascension Saint Thomas and Premier Radiology collaborated with a shared mission: to address healthcare disparities and ensure that vulnerable populations have access to critical services. This partnership exemplifies a commitment to addressing barriers to care for uninsured women, ensuring vulnerable community members receive the support they need. The initiative is part of a larger effort to eliminate financial and systemic barriers that prevent individuals from receiving vital services like mammograms.

Breaking down barriers to healthcare access

The initiative identified 1,567 women who could benefit from free mammogram screenings, focusing on reaching those in need, regardless of insurance status. The goal was simple yet powerful: to spread awareness about free mammograms and connect women to screenings that could detect potential health issues early.

Information about the free screenings was provided in both English and Spanish to ensure all women, regardless of language preference, had access to critical health information.

Over 200 individuals were successfully reached to schedule their free mammogram, representing a significant number of women who might not have had the opportunity to access this potentially life-saving service otherwise. Early screenings are essential for detecting breast cancer, which improves the chances of successful treatment.

A step toward health equity

This campaign marks an important step toward achieving health equity. By focusing on underserved communities and offering free mammograms, Ascension Saint Thomas is helping to reduce health disparities and empowering women to prioritize their health. This initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to improving the health of the community and ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

The campaign underscores that health equity is not just about offering services—it’s about making sure those services are accessible to everyone. This initiative is a key part of the larger mission by Ascension Saint Thomas to improve the health of the community and provide equitable healthcare to all.
