Ascension Saint Thomas, Marian University to Host ‘Come Explore Nursing’ on April 15

Prospective students interested in a rewarding career in nursing can learn more about the field and meet university and hospital leaders at a free ‘Come Explore Nursing’ event from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 15 at Ascension Saint Thomas West Hospital, 4220 Harding Pike, Nashville.

Hosted by Ascension Saint Thomas and Marian University’s Leighton School of Nursing, the event will showcase pathways into the field while addressing Tennessee's persistent need for nurses.

“We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, including those seeking a career change, to learn about the tremendous opportunities in this dynamic industry,” said Angela Bailey, the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program site director at Marian University

At the event, participants can learn about Marian University’s nursing programs, including:

  • An Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), a 16-month program that combines online coursework with hands-on labs and clinical rotations; and
  • A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program, which is part of Marian University's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. The rigorous 87-credit-hour program enables graduates to work in settings that require anesthesia, including hospitals, trauma centers and delivery rooms.

The need for nurses in Tennessee is well documented. The Tennessee Hospital Association said the state is experiencing an unprecedented staffing shortage of healthcare professionals, with a projected shortfall of 8,500 nurses through 2035.

“The nursing shortage is a challenge nationwide, and Nashville is no exception,” said Amir Hamad, vice president of nursing for Ascension Saint Thomas. “Events like ‘Come Explore Nursing’ with Marian University are crucial because they connect aspiring nurses with the resources and pathways needed to enter this rewarding field. Ascension Saint Thomas is committed to building the next generation of nurses and strengthening our healthcare workforce through education and opportunity.”

“The good news is that nursing offers well-paying, stable careers,” Bailey said, “as well as an opportunity to give back to something bigger than yourself.”
