Ascension Seton Hays Celebrates Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Rating

Ascension Seton Hays recently celebrated a significant achievement: a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2025 Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings. This recognition highlights our team's steadfast commitment to exceptional patient care, safety, and outstanding patient experience. The celebration brought together local elected officials, community leaders, Ascension Seton Hays Foundation board members, Ascension Seton leaders, hospital leaders, and staff to honor everyone who contributed to this success.

“This award represents the top 10 percent of hospitals in the U.S.,” said Dr. Joshua Pozos, Chief Medical Officer at Ascension Seton Hays. “It cannot be accomplished without the dedication of so many – our nurses, physicians, senior leaders, and partners who make patient safety and quality their daily mission.”

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings are derived from 46 publicly reported quality measures across five quality domains: Mortality, Patient Experience, Readmission, Safety of Care, and Timely and Effective Care. These quality measures are aggregated and a single composite star rating is assigned by CMS for each hospital, with five stars indicating the highest level of hospital performance. CMS requires all hospitals participating in Medicare to collect data for each quality measure, which are reported on Care Compare.

In 2025, CMS reported a star score for 2,891 U.S. hospitals with the national average star rating decreasing from 3.13 stars in 2024 to 3.08 stars in the current year. Ascension had 41 hospitals receive a star rating with the average rating across all facilities of 3.37 stars. Of those Ascension facilities, approximately 21 earned either a five- or four-star rating, reflecting a superior level of performance compared to hospitals with three or fewer stars.

“There are not that many hospitals that reach this level of excellence,” said Ascension Seton Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Samson Jesudass. “To earn three five-star ratings in four years shows consistency, focus, and a way of life centered on excellence. When you walk into this hospital, you can be confident you’re receiving the very best care.”

We are incredibly grateful to the Ascension Seton Hays Foundation for hosting this wonderful event.
