Ascension Wisconsin Cancer Center Earns National Recognition for Outstanding Patient Experience

For patients undergoing cancer treatment, compassionate care makes a meaningful difference. A familiar face at check-in, a nurse who takes time to answer questions, or a care team member who remembers a personal detail can help ease anxiety and make a challenging experience more manageable.

At Ascension Wisconsin’s Reiman Cancer Center, these everyday interactions are central to how care teams serve patients. That commitment has earned the center Ascension’s 2026 Consumer Experience Award for Highest Overall Performance in Outpatient Services, recognizing its performance in patient experience.

The award is based on feedback collected through Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys. The results reflect whether patients feel listened to, supported, and cared for throughout their experience.

With achieving the highest score of 96.8, on a scale ranging from -100 to 100, the Reiman Cancer Center also ranked among the top 20 outpatient services facilities for year-over-year improvement out of 209 facilities evaluated during fiscal year 2026.

While these metrics demonstrate strong performance, patient feedback reveals what those results mean in practice.

“Very professional staff. Every single thing was above and beyond in my opinion. Going in for radiation and chemo is a daunting experience and somehow everyone was able to calm my nerves. I am very grateful,” one patient shared in a survey response.

Another patient praised the care team’s communication and compassion, noting that clinicians and associates listened, answered questions, and made everything clear and understandable.

“Our associates are what make Ascension Wisconsin special,” said Jonathon Matuszewski, president of Ascension Franklin and St. Francis Hospitals. “This award honors the authenticity they bring to every interaction and their shared dedication to elevating the experience for everyone who enters our doors.”

Coordinated care with a personal touch

At Ascension Wisconsin’s Reiman Cancer Center, creating a supportive patient experience begins before the appointment and continues throughout treatment. The center brings radiation oncology and medical oncology together in one location, with a shared check-in process that helps patients navigate their visits seamlessly.

Clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, radiation therapy technologists, and administrative associates work together to coordinate care, anticipate patient needs, and support follow-up scheduling. They build personal connections with patients by remembering individual preferences, following up on previous conversations, and adding thoughtful touches, such as playing preferred music during radiation treatments.

“We take many steps to support a quality patient experience, from scheduling appointments to welcoming patients with familiar faces at check-in,” said Allyson Lilly, director of Ascension Wisconsin Cancer Care. “Through daily conversations and individualized connections, our care team builds meaningful relationships that help patients feel comfortable, supported, and cared for throughout their visits.”

This patient-centered approach recognizes that every individual’s circumstances and needs are unique. While consistent standards help care teams deliver reliable, high-quality care, adapting to the person in front of them is equally important.

The result is an environment where patients receive comprehensive care tailored to their clinical needs and emotional well-being.

A team effort that brings our Mission to life

Delivering an award-winning patient experience requires the dedication of every associate. This recognition reflects a shared commitment across clinical, operational, and support roles. It also reinforces Ascension Wisconsin’s focus on providing compassionate, patient-centered care grounded in its faith-based Mission.

For patients facing a cancer diagnosis, the expertise of their care team is essential. So, too, is knowing that someone is listening, that questions will be answered, and that they will be treated with dignity and compassion throughout their care journey.

At Ascension Wisconsin’s Reiman Cancer Center, the Consumer Experience Award recognizes the associates and clinicians who bring that commitment to life every day. Their dedication demonstrates how listening, teamwork, and genuine human connection turn routine interactions into experiences that support patients when they need it most.
