A pharmacy fellow working with The Resource Group, an Ascension subsidiary, is co-author of a new paper, “America’s Strategy for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria,” published by Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare magazine.
In the paper, Mylinda Dill, BS, PharmD, Fellow, Health Information and Clinical Outcomes, and her co-authors lay out details of a national plan released by the White House earlier this year, which was prompted by an executive order in late 2014.
“Healthcare providers and patients have been battling antibiotic resistance ever since the recognition of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus in 1961, yet, there have been no legislative or national initiatives to combat the ongoing antibiotic resistance,” they write. “The September 2014 Presidential Executive Order and subsequent PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) report as well as the recent National Action Plan represent revolutionary steps toward combating antibiotic resistance.”
As shared previously, Ascension is part of the national effort to slow the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and prevent the spread of resistant infections.
