Milwaukee students get feel for robotic surgery at Ascension hospital

Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee recently hosted an all-day robotics “teach-in” event. Local middle and high school students had an opportunity to learn from the hospital’s robotics team and surgeons, as well as test-drive a surgical robot.

“Medicine isn’t all about book smarts and knowing how to diagnose, high school senior Kayla Dudor told WDJT-TV. “It’s also about how engineers come into it and how it’s always growing and always evolving and that I can't just ignore engineering, I need to keep up with technologies.”

Natalie Gest, another senior, who hopes to one day work as a psychologist or neurosurgeon, expressed his admiration for surgeons and their work. “This allowed me to put myself in their place,” he told WTMJ-TV. “It’s definitely given me a newfound appreciation for surgeons.”
