Ascension Saint Thomas creating new hospital for women

Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital has begun work on a new “hospital within a hospital” designed specifically for women and newborns.

The Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital for Women at Midtown will include more than 100,000 square feet of space, encompass two floors and feature its own entrance. The third floor will house a renovated labor and delivery center featuring a private entrance, an obstetrics intensive care unit, expanded neonatal intensive care services and an obstetrics emergency department designed to care for pregnant women. The hospital also will include a new surgery center, featuring dedicated surgical suites and technology upgrades.

“We really took feedback from patients and modeled it into [the hospital’s] plans so that we can exceed their expectations – not only in the care we provide, but their experience,” Kristen Toth, Ascension Saint Thomas Vice President of Women’s, Children’s and Oncology Services, told the Nashville Business Journal.

Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown provides care to approximately 7,000 expecting mothers each year and performs several thousand surgeries annually.
