In a recent interview with the Nashville Post, Ascension Saint Thomas Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer Michelle Robertson talked about strategies for attracting and retaining quality nurses, specifically related to the innovation unit at Ascension Saint Thomas West.

“It’s not just about recruiting nurses, it’s also about keeping them here,” she said. “And today’s nurses have different expectations. We have to be flexible, nimble and provide them with more control over their work environment and allow them to create an environment where they want to stay. We call that joy retention.”

The innovation unit serves as a test environment for nurse-generated ideas that, if they work well, could be expanded across Ascension.
