David Galbis-Reig, MD, DFASAM, Medical Director of Addiction Services at Ascension All Saints in Racine, part of Ascension Wisconsin, recently assumed the role of President of the Wisconsin Society of Addiction Medicine (WISAM).
He has been a member of the society for more than 12 years and credited several mentors for shaping the direction of WISAM over the past decade, including Drs. Michael Miller, Brian Lochen, Aleksandra Zgierska, Matt Felgus, Nameeta Dookeran, Subhadeep Barman and Ritu Bhatnagar.
“Their leadership has helped foster WISAM’s reputation as the go-to organization for all issues related to addiction medicine,” Dr. Galbis-Reig said. “It has been my honor to serve the organization as secretary and president-elect during the previous years. I now look forward to working to ensure that WISAM remains the premier professional organization for those working in any capacity with patients who suffer with the disease of addiction in Wisconsin.”
Dr. Galbis-Reig advocates for appropriate medical treatment of patients with mental health and addictive diseases. He also has been involved in numerous educational activities to decrease prescription drug abuse and the burden of addiction to opioid analgesics across Wisconsin, with a focus on Racine and Kenosha counties.
