Doctors at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, part of Ascension Michigan, recently launched a Heart Attack Prevention, or HAP, Clinic.
Vishal Gupta, MD, director of the cardiac catheterization lab at Ascension Borgess Hospital, is working to identify patients with the highest risk of heart disease, especially those who are unaware and have no symptoms. Once the patient is identified, doctors will discuss their risk, prevention strategies, signs and symptoms, and treatment if necessary.
“Now we can start upfront, taking care of them and just change the course of their life and they would never see a heart attack in their life,” Dr. Gupta told WWMT.
He said the HAP Clinic has been five years in the making and officially launched in January 2020.
“One patient, when we called, she said she’s been having symptoms that she’d been ignoring,” Dr. Gupta said. He said it is a common response from women.
