Former NICU patient Hana Christiansen now cares for preemies in same unit

To mark National Nurses Week, Milwaukee’s TMJ4 told the story of Hana Christiansen, RN, who was born 12 weeks early and spent the first weeks of her life outside the womb in the Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital - Milwaukee Campus Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Hana now works in the same NICU, caring for families in the same situation her mom and dad found themselves in.

Hana said she wanted to be a nurse her whole life and even job-shadowed NICU nurse educator Jamie Kaczmarek, RN, (who is now nurse manager) in the same NICU while she was in high school.

“From day one Hana has always been a go-getter, very excited, passionate about becoming a nurse,” Jamie said.

“I’m so grateful for all those nurses that cared for me. My mom always calls them angels, and I always strive, I want to be one of those angels,” Hana told TMJ4.
