Ascension Saint Mary-Chicago works with West Side United to offer healthcare opportunities

Ascension Saint Mary-Chicago joined West Side United, a coalition of healthcare organizations serving Chicago’s West Side, almost six years ago with the goal to bring health, jobs and other opportunities to people in that area of the city.

Since that time, Ascension Saint Mary-Chicago has hired 127 associates through the hospital’s collaboration with West Side United and its affiliated organizations. One of those associates, Marcia Green, a clerk on the supply chain management team, has had a positive experience in her new career with the hospital thanks to these programs.

“I immediately felt welcomed and everyone has been very helpful and informative as I’ve learned the job,” Marcia said of her first few weeks at Ascension Saint Mary-Chicago. “I have met some good people here, and I look forward to growing within Ascension.”

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we're doing to invest beyond our hospital's walls,” said Bob Dahl, President, Ascension Saint Mary-Chicago, who serves as a member of the West Side United Executive Committee. “When we became a West Side United anchor hospital in 2017, we did it with the goal of improving social determinants of health to positively impact our community, one person at a time. The associates we’re hiring today are a testament to our progress toward that goal.”
