Miss Indiana’s Teen’s emergency surgery at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital doesn’t hold her back

This year’s newly crowned Miss Indiana’s Teen, Keegan Connor, shared her story of an emergency appendectomy and quick recovery at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, part of Ascension Indiana, during the WTHR Inspiring Indiana segment.

Keegan’s surgery started at the same time of the opening reception for Miss Indiana Week.

“It was something that I thought, ‘The whole week was over,’” she said. She told WTHR that the Ascension St. Vincent staff went the extra mile before, during and after her procedure.

Evan Kokoska, MD, a pediatric surgeon at the hospital, performed a laparoscopic procedure on Keegan, who was able to return to the stage and festivities within hours.

“We love patients like Keegan, because she was highly motivated to get better quicker. Patients like that are fantastic,” Dr. Kokoska told WTHR.
