Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love Community Baby Shower Provides Expectant Families a Wealth of Resources

Every child deserves a strong, healthy start, and every parent deserves the support to make that possible.

On Saturday, April 25, Ascension Wisconsin brought that mission to life through its Blanket of Love Community Baby Shower, a welcoming, resource-rich event designed for expectant and new moms. Hosted at the Ascension All Saints Hospital’s Health Pavilion, the event drew more than 100 new or expecting moms and families, where they received gift bags with baby items, snacks, refreshments and more. More than 20 community partner organizations including WIC, the SE Wisconsin YWCA, and Healthy Start also provided attendees information, resources and connections to vital services.

More than a celebration, the goal of the event was to conveniently and efficiently connect families with trusted care teams, essential education, and community partners so new and expectant families can access the tools, guidance and support they need from day one.

Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love

Founded in 2004, Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love is an educational and social support program for expectant mothers and their families to help reduce infant mortality and promote familial wellness. The program works in collaboration with church congregations, city officials, homeless shelters, neighborhood centers and community partners.

Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love has grown to 16 program sites including three Ascension Wisconsin hospital campuses (Ascension St. Joseph, Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee and Ascension St. Francis Hospital) and Meta House. Additionally, 36 churches are Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love Sanctuaries, connecting more than 5,000 families to educational, social and healthcare resources each year.

The program also supports birthday celebrations for babies who turn one year old and connects moms to critical resources like food, diapers and wipes through the Ascension Ebenezer Health Resource Center and Food Pantry.
