Mothers in Pensacola, Florida, spent nearly two years participating in research to help them improve their children’s brain development, and the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart was part of it.
The research was part of a partnership between the Studer Community Institute and the TMW Center for Early Learning and Public Health at the University of Chicago.
The study involved a video lesson designed to help moms know about their child’s early brain development and the power of language to build an infant’s brain and fuel school readiness. It was conducted in the mother-baby units at Ascension Sacred Heart as well as other area hospitals.
Now that research will be applied to other communities to help fine-tune a strategy for helping parents understand the importance of a child’s earliest years.
Will Condon, President of the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, said the hospital was honored to be part of this important study for the community.
“The more we can educate our moms on the importance of early childhood development and interaction the better for everyone involved,” he said. “Partnerships with organizations like the Studer Community Institute are vital for the future health and well-being of our communities that we are privileged to serve. We look forward to playing a key role in future educational programs that better prepare our patients and families for life outside of the hospital.”
