Joy is an essential element of Catholic ministry, and Ascension’s work to cultivate joy in the workplace is included in a feature story by Catholic Health World.
“Ascension introduces job candidates to its system values during the recruitment and interviewing phase, when hiring managers are assessing whether applicants are a good fit for the organization,” CHW says in “Catholic health care associates tap into joy of serving others.” “For instance, interviewers might ask, ‘Where do you find joy in your work or vocation as a nurse?’”
The story notes that during performance reviews, Ascension supervisors talk with associates about how they live out the System’s Values in their jobs, including “Dedication: Affirming the hope and joy of our ministry.”
“As we participate in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer we do so joyfully and imitate Jesus’ joy,” said Timm Glover, Senior Vice President, Mission Integration. “Such joy does not deny challenges, obstacles or suffering. Rather, joy serves as a resource to us in such times.”
