Ascension Chief Executive Officer Joseph R. Impicciche, JD, MHA, recently shared information on his leadership, the challenges facing healthcare and Ascension’s response with Scottsdale Institute, a not-for-profit membership organization of prominent healthcare organizations in the United States. It fosters collaboration among healthcare leaders and organizations to advance the adoption of innovative solutions to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
In question-and-answer format, Joe talked about the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ascension’s commitment to associates, and the System’s efforts in the area of consumer experience.
“Our focus in consumer experience has been the seamless integration of all the human, physical and digital touchpoints consumers have with Ascension,” he said. “While we often think about the bedside clinician when we consider patient experience, our consumer’s experience and engagement with us begins when a person first thinks about or searches for care and makes an appointment with an Ascension caregiver; it continues when they walk through our doors, into the care experience, and includes all of the care transitions, follow-ups and touchpoints after that.
“Creating great experiences is central to both our Mission and our growth strategy. If anything, the pandemic accelerated a change in consumer behavior toward healthcare, and it heightened the expectation that consumer interactions are consistently kind, seamless and efficient.”
He also discussed Ascension’s strategies to address the social determinants of health like food insecurity, lack of transportation, homelessness and more.
