Gordon B. Ferguson, MHA, FACHE, brings over 35 years of healthcare expertise to his role as President & CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford hospital. His commitment to the Ascension Saint Thomas community began in 1998 when he assumed the position of Senior Vice President of Support Services. Gordon's leadership journey within the organization continued, with subsequent roles as Senior Vice President of Operations, Chief Operating Officer in 2004, and then to Chief Executive Officer in 2006.
Throughout his career, Gordon has garnered recognition for his outstanding contributions to healthcare and leadership. Business Tennessee Magazine identified him among the top 25 hospital operators in the state in 2009. Nashville Business Journal celebrated him as a Healthcare Hero in 2010, and the Daily News Journal (DNJ) named him Person of the Year. In 2015, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine honored Gordon as Administrator of the Year, and in 2018, he received the UAB GPHA Alumnus of the Year award. His stature in the community was further acknowledged when he was named the Business Legend of the Year by the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce in 2019.
Gordon holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with honors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a master's degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Designated as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2007, he also served as the president of the Healthcare Executive Forum of Middle Tennessee (HEFMT).
