Jessica Micklo, BSN, RN, a nurse at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville in Indiana, has first-hand experience when it comes to the care of patients living with cancer. After she was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer at age 20, Jessica began looking at patient care differently.
She recently told 44News how she remembers the impact nurses had on her life, and that experience led her to pursue a career as an oncology nurse.
Now Jessica serves as the coordinator for nurse recruitment, retention and recognition for Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, where she works to help students understand the difference they can make in the lives of patients by becoming a nurse.
“I get to help nurses come work here and tell them about how great this place is and how impactful it can be,” she told 44News. “It is the best choice I think someone could make, is to be a nurse.”
